VALENTINE'S DAY 2011

Given the upcoming world-wide event of Valentine's Day (some suspicious minds think it is in fact a day created by the Big Department Stores) we, here at SAT & SET want to "share" our appreciation and recognition with all of you. In order to do so, we would like you to post a comment either here, in the blog, or at our SAT & SET Teachers Facebook, showing some appreciation to any SAT & SET STAFF Member or any other fellow teacher. It may have been something as simple as getting paper for the photocopy machine, in the case of STAFF MEMBERS or a time when another teacher helped you figure out your next lesson, show it to him/her/them with a "loving" comment.
You will not only have the opportunity to post your comments online, but from tomorrow Friday 11/02 on until Monday 14/02 (Valentine's Day) you will be able to post your comment on paper and place it

in our "APPRECIATION BOX" located in the Teacher's Area here in SAT & SET Madrid (APPRECIATION BOX only available in Madrid).
In return, out of all the comments collected online and from the "APPRECIATION BOX", wherever it may either in our offices in Madrid or our offices in Barcelona, we will choose the one that "touched" us most, by giving the sender and the receiver of the comment a wonderful Box of Bonbons. (Caja Roja de Nestlé).
We sincerely hope to receive lots of comments and lots of "love" from our SAT & SET Teachers and STAFF.

EXTRA: A READING

Today we came across a wonderful article of a true story. The world renown clown and image of a very well known fast food chain has been kidnapped by a group who claim to be demanding for the right to have better hamburgers.
Please don't miss out on the article here

. The article may come in handy as a gap filler or even a whole lesson on "Rights" "Food" "Contraversy Fast Food or Junk Food" "Corporate Image" As you can see various issues may come up during the lesson.
Please let us know what you and your students thought of the class. Don't forget to post your comments.

NEW SAT & SET FACEBOOK

Here it is! A facebook site where students and teachers will share questions and answers, where the students will post their comments on their issues encountered while learning English. A place to share, a place to LEARN!

Students will not have access to any of the teacher's personal information (unless allowed/accepted by the given settings on a profile under the process of FRIEND acceptance), since the SAT & SET facebook will just be a meeting place and as you know, the best way to protect your information is having your Security and Share settings properly set up. Please do follow up and check on your settings thoroughly in order to avoid "sharing what we don't want to". Remember that this meeting point that is the SAT & SET Facebook is mainly to share, make comments and solve doubts. Make good use of it.
Don't forget to tell your students about the new SAT & SET Facebook and please post your comments to see what you think.

NEW BOOKS ADDED TO THE LIBRARY

SAT & SET is always on the watch for new material we can suggest clients and for new ideas to put into practice in our classes. This week we've added a new resource to the Teacher's Library (Madrid, Barcelona will soon have a copy). New English File: ADVANCED. You can check out the specs of the book here.
If you ever need any help getting your classes ready, don't hesitate to ask any of us for suggestions on lesson planning, extra resources or games and activities.

RESOURCES: BUSINESS CONVERSATION: COMPETITION

How competitive is the business world today? Everybody is trying to slit each others throats open professionally. To what extent is this a fair practice? Are you a competitive person?
These are a few of the issues talked about in this topic.
The files have been compressed into a zip a file, in which you'll find the student's, the teacher's and the audio extracts necessary to make this an interesting class.

Please don't forget to post your comments on how the class went. All your feedback will be appreciated.
Download the material here.

RESOURCES: GENERAL CONVERSATION : FOOD

This is a topic that most people have an opinion on. Here's a topic that will not only get your students to talk, but will also make you very, very hungry.
We have included a few of world renown dishes in the material, which will make your mouth watery, a quiz on how much you know about foo. Your students will talk about the restaurants they usually visit (their "usuals"). You will get a chance to talk about English food, yes, English food. We'll see how water has become a fashionable item and, of course, we can't go on talking about food without talking about a great cook, Jamie Oliver.
As you can see a really complete overview that will make your students talk and talk about something everybody likes in this country, eating, and eating a lot.
Please leave your comment on how the class went and what you did to improve the dynamics of the material.
You can download the material here.
